West London Orbital comes to Ealing Town Hall Thursday 13th November at 7:00pm- Presentation from Orbital Team followed by our AGM.

Our Mission

As a Volunteer group we were founded in 2001 to act as a pressure group for local transport users. To act as a conduit to the Council, TFL and other Transport bodies that are involved in our transport.

Whether day to day problems or else issues of strategy we give of our time to help the people who live and work in the Borough of Ealing.

The committee has recently started to divide up into groups in order to tackle specialist areas. Our chair John Beeston writes a column in the Ealing Gazette about Transport matters and you can get the latest edition by clicking here. Also please take a look at the Platform magazine.

So come to Ealing Town Hall on Thursday the 13th November at 7:00pm to hear more about the West London Orbital railway and also for our AGM.This Railway is proposed to link Brent Cross to Kingston via Park Royal,Ealing, Northfields, Brentford and Richmond.

Another subject of great interest is what to do about Transport in the borough now the Tram has gone. With the Crossrail project being agreed the fact is that the Great Western corridor is the main transport spine of the Borough and so we are campaigning to improve with London Overground and others the service along this line. Also improvements such as Bus interchanges to Southall and Ealing Broadway would transform our area.

Our Profile

Our committee is made up of volunteers and represents different age groups and areas within the borough.

We are involved with LTUC and have regular meetings with transport providers.

We have Public meetings which give the community a chance to question the people who run our transport system.

We chase up issues and try to originate helpful ideas from the feedback we receive from the Public.

195 Bus route links Ealing Hospital to Boston Manor and Brentford!!!

Oystercards have come to First Great Western.First Great Western have listened to passenger group’s criticisms of their service have appointed a new Chief Executive to run the company and he, in turn has brought in a team of top men from several other more successful parts of First’s rail empire. The CEO’s mandate is simply, “to get it right” and already that message is getting through to the staff at all levels and already passenger groups across the region are saying, “we like what we hear”.

The recent year has seen many changes. At it’s start the Tram Debate was still very much a dominant matter but with the change of political power in the Borough, Ealing Council joined it’s neighboring boroughs and decided to oppose the West London Tram. With Crossrail going ahead the Tram is finally dead. We opposed the tram at an early stage because it failed to provide any extra benefits to the ease the Borough’s appalling traffic situation.

The Council’s decision to oppose the tram did free our volunteers’ time from attending meetings etc and this enabled us to give more attention to other forms of transport. Bus services in the Borough came in for much detailed study, with John Gashion the Bus Sub Committee Chair being particularly active. Spurred by numerous complaints that EPTUG has received about the 120, (Northolt, Southall, Hounslow) route. Extensive monitoring was carried out confirming that erratic time-keeping and serious overcrowding were in fact commonplace. His findings formed a most impressive document which was sent to the media and to Peter Hendy, head of TfL, with a request for a top level meeting. TfL asked for time to carry out their own findings and have at last agreed to meet with us, although in typical TfL fashion, the meeting will be with middle managers only.
