The Tube has given us little cause for comment, with members raising few issues, but Chiltern and First Great Western Services are a different matter. Our Vice Chairman, Derek Mulquin has campaigned over a number of years for better Chiltern services to and from the Sudburys and has achieved what he describes as a small measure of success, but, knowing how these things work I feel he has achieved a great deal. We have also been able to assist users of the Sudbury and Harrow Road Station secure a slightly improved, safer station, though there is still much work to be done.
- Sadly Shepherds Bush Central Line station will be closed for 6 months or
more whilst the new interchange with the shopping centre is built. A new Wood
Lane station on the Hammersmith and City will also be opened.
- District line trains have been refurbished. However the network despite
some work taking place seems as fragile as ever. The Piccadilly to Heathrow is
still very crowded. Currently we are looking at suggestions to shift around
capacity.
- The Tube network is in a very poor state after many years under
investment. We know that major work is required and support the idea of line
closures for periods of say a week for major work to get completed. The cost
saving will allow more important work to get done. If this disruption can be
handled at holiday periods then we may all benefit.
- When the Central line was out of action we asked why large
pieces of work were not performed then. It was too costly as contracts for
other work were all in place. This is the madness of part privatisation.
- Concerns currently over Piccadilly Line between Acton Town and Hammersmith
but at least major work been done Acton and
Heathrow.
- 22nd June 2004 we had 3 area managers and the managing director Tim
O'Toole at our meeting. Follow the link for a more
detailed report.
